An Interview with Evade Robots

0

We interviewed American producer Evade Robots on the occasion of his new Low Recordings release. Void LP. Taking advantage of the fact that he has just released this interesting work, we ask him some questions to get to know him a little better.

When and how did you get your interest in electronic music?

In the early 90’s I was exposed to some electronic music from my 3 older sisters. It wasn’t until 1996 when one of their friends showed me a track by Josh Wink or ‘Winx’ as he went by back then called ‘Don’t Laugh’ and that was the first real underground electronic music I was exposed to as a kid. Soon after I was listening to Aphex Twin, The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and more electronic artists then I was hooked.

What have you been doing with your time during lockdown in your city or country?

I made my album ‘Voids’ during lockdown. Basically, I was working on the album during lock down at night and working my video editing gig during the day.

What was your workflow like when producing your ‘Voids’ album on Low Recordings?

I wanted to explore more spacey sounds with different types of drum patterns that I had not done before. So I would spend time searching and messing with sounds and effects until something came out that I liked. It kind of all came together quickly for most of the tracks.

Could you recommend a set that you are especially proud of, and that we can listen to on your Soundcloud or on YouTube?

One of my recent favorites was one I recorded in Phoenix, AZ at RecordBar Radio. It is available on Youtube. They are some great people and have a nice selection of vinyl to buy. If you are ever in Phoenix check them out!

What can you tell us about the scene in your home city of Los Angeles? And what would you improve?

Void LP

The electronic music scene in Los Angeles is amazing. There are so many collectives and people supporting each other in all types of music within the genre. It is the best music scene I have been a part of.

Finally, what can you tell us about your present and future projects?

I am currently working on new music to eventually release and happy my album is out now. I’m grateful for anyone who has been listening and supporting me. Low Recordings has pushed my music even further and I’m grateful to call them my friends. I appreciate you all taking the time to ask me questions, Thank you!. To anyone reading, my music is available on all streaming platforms as Evade Robots
