An interview with Man.E

0

We interviewed the duo Man.E. Their music is unclassifiable, but it has no rival. So close your eyes and let yourself be carried away by your feelings.

When and how did you get your interest in electronic music?

At the beginning of the 2000’s. We had the chance to witness the last moments of that special vibe from the 90’s. Back then, Italian clubbing and electronic scene was impressive, in terms of quality, and numbers of talented djs and producers. We started attending very soon to the clubs of Milano and north of italy, around 2002/2003. At that time Fede was already playing the bass guitar and approaching music production while Giamma started collecting music and mixing with turntables and with the old cdj pioneer 100’s.

We met in 2015, and started doing some bass improvisation on dj set. Empathy was clear, so we decided to form a duo.

What have you been doing with your time in lockdown in your city or country?

We immersed ourselves in digging deeper, producing our music and on the publishing works with the label we run: Taste Rec. L

How do you assess the trajectory you have had and what were the reasons that led you to start it?

We are truly in love with music, in a lot of forms and genres. When it comes to electronic music, we try, as dj and producers, to find the right balance between all our influences and subgeners we love, to propose a sound that is really ours. This was and still is the trajectory.

What was your criteria when doing your last jobs?

Last work was a remix on Taste Rec, for italian duo The Robinson. We put our touch without distorting the original sound of the artist.

Could you recommend a set that you are especially proud of, and that we can see on your Soundcloud or on YouTube?

A set we did last summer for the welsh label Andras. This is a housy oriented set with some classics from our archives and some last years favorites. We really like how it turned out.

What can you tell us about the scene in your city? What would you improve?

Milano’s club scene has seen a real renaissance in the last decade, in terms of quality of the proposals, venues, organizations and labels. We truly hope covid won’t kill the wonderful atmosphere we left in 2019, but we are positive. When Milano reopens, it will be massive.

Finally, what can you tell us about your present and future projects?

We will be out with some remixes, on Taste rec and on others friend’s label. We have also a new unreleased EP ready to be sent to few labels.
