> When and how did you get your interest in electronic music?
I listened to a lot of Aphex Twin and Nine Inch Nails when I was 11; it was an absolute departure from the rock and dance music that I would normally hear on the radio. This was music made by a single person, all while sounding like an entire band using non-traditional instruments. I went to my first rave at 14, and that is where I discovered trance. Soon after I started DJ’ing, and at 15 I started making my own music, using whatever software I could find or understand how to use. It was pretty terrible! I loved the process though, and spent most of my free time exploring, synthesizing and programming.
> What can you tell us about the scene of your city? What would you improve?
I’m very fortunate to be from Toronto. We have swarms of great local talent, and many big names come to play here. I’ve seen many of my favourite artists obliterate dance floors here! We have promoters who love good music, and that makes all the difference.
> What was your criterion when producing your One of Everyone EP?
This EP is a reflection of my early love of electronic music; I would get lost in melodies that conjured emotional states and left my ears in awe. Every piece and soundscape has a chance to tell a story, and I’ve found that melody and synthesis can sometimes emote a feeling more effectively and deeply than lyrics. I wanted beauty and harmony to be at the forefront of this release.
> Finally, what can you tell us about your present and future projects?
Melodic techno is my happy place, but not every mood is happy! I produce darker and more experimental techno under my given name, Giordan Battaglin. In this style, I have a 6-track EP releasing in a few weeks, entitled Metamorphose, on Underdub Records. This album is a bridge between the melodic and dark sides of techno, while still keeping the progressive vibes.
I am always working on new music, and I have a few more finished releases waiting to be sent out to labels.
