Explosive, sidereal, are the first words that come to mind when we first hear the 99th release of Silhouette, by Oscar Avendaño aka Levantine. This multifaceted artist is a bassist, keyboardist, and DJ from Mexico, and has established a sound with a catalog of impressive releases and diverse labels on Turbolenz Records, Chopshop and Discoweey.
The 4 tracks that make up “Nebula Steam” show that Levantine knows how to manipulate rhythms and frequencies to turn productions into infinite intergalactic cosmic rays. This EP displays an evolved, refined and enhanced sound that consolidates the career of a producer who does not stop having notable virtues, presenting such singular and unique nuances. Few artists manage to reflect the need for euphoria in our society as well as Levantine does on this album. Each track resonates from the depths, and manages to delve into a unique and very personal sonic cosmos, inspired by Levantine electronic heroes like: Jean Michel Jarre, Pet Shop Boys, the early years of Depeche Mode and OMD, covering a wide range of textures sounds that will make our speakers roar.
All these themes come together, until they combine an album as experimental as it is intense and addictive, which takes over oneself like a sweet poison, while progressively transporting us, as few producers with a certain fluidity are willing to do. We do not know what the future holds, but we do know that this EP is a testimony to a present “Nebula Steam”, turbulent and uncertain, which will remain in our memory forever, but that nevertheless, thanks to EP like this, we can continue fighting for a better future.
