The Irish producer and one of the main artist of DFA Records, Marcus Lambkin aka Shit Robot is part of a lineage that runs through empire of James Murphy. The couple met when Murphy was looking for a Studio in a building in New York where Lambkin had an office, creating a fruitful relationship, releasing hits in later years and his first album in 2010 of with title ‘From The Cradle to the Rave’ with collaborations with artists of the stature of: de Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor and Nancy Whang. DFA Records, a label created by James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy in New York, is one of our favourite labels, that have most contributed to the current scene, taking has artists such as The Rapture, The Juan Maclean, Delia Gonzalez Gavin Russom, J.O.Y., Pixeltan, or Hot Chip among others. Being in shape, always adapting the true sound of the past to the present, by borrowing the best of the last dance music, uniting it masterfully with the post-punk. They have produced and remixed artists including Radio 4, N.E.R.D., Soulwax, Blues Explosion, Nine Inch Nails, Gorillaz, UNKLE, The Chemical Brothers and M.I.A.
For this new EP from Shit Robot called “Where It´s At”, Marcus collaborates with the talented Reggie Watts (singer, comedian and Tv star, who is now the Director of The Late Late Show) vocal performance runs the gamut of Chicago dance music history – from the gloom and melodrama of iconic label Wax Trax, to the jubilant choruses of Frankie Knuckles’ house anthems, which dazzles throughout the track. An acid arpeggio of a Tb-303 hits under a drums of the same TR 707 to kick the addictive and thick bass line with the voice of Watts sounding at times something like Vincent Price in “Thriller”, along with clapps and bleeps and bloops abundance come together in a perfect cocktail, but downplaying the solid instrumentation provided by Shit Robot. A direct track to the heart of the dance floor, without losing less of the classic roll so fundamental has been the current history of electronic music, a current ode have to adelight if any fan of good House, everything is cleared up through a jubilant atmosphere wanting to dance. This is accompanied by the remix’s producer London Johnny Aux, which captivated us with their Viltage EP on the label MoreaboutMusic in 2013, is responsible for bring the original to a much more Deep zone but to old school, more minimalist, with a raw sound where the Hi searched appear in the mist to generate depth While the vowel of Reggie is used entirely in terms of a horror movie.
