Umberto aka Matt Hill and Antoni Maiovvi, two fans of the analog sounds of dance character and the soundtracks of the films of terror, come together to offer us “Law Unit”, a very personal album where the industrial and experimental merges with gloomy and icy atmospheres.
The album has been light this week on the British label Death Waltz, label who worked closely together to composers and directors such as John Carpenter, Richard Kelly, Alan Howarth, Fabio Frizzi or Goblin, recovering anthological jewels in format vinyl 180 gram, to the delight of the music lover’s turn.
The opener track of the album, in form of introof “Gold Digging” with sound aspects of the Giallo films soundtracks. “Taxidermy” continues with this tension-based environmental passages very gloomy.
The experimentation of “Butcher” based on broken beats and dark sequences lead us to “Continuity”, another environmental passage that recreates a scene of anguish and uncertainty in the listener.
The pace of industrial character reached it with “Bonethugs“, first semi-dance beats, with an intro where the power of synths makes for you hair like hooks and redoubled bass reminiscent of us the beginning of the 1990s, slow but effective industrial techno development.
The strange melancholy in “Icebox” becomes twisted-based chords of a frozen synthesizer that intoxicating sound particles bursts.
Choral voices from beyond the grave are used to introduce “Defenestrate Thyself“, a macabre ritual where sharp beats never fail to hit you even for a moment, always with the halo of mystery as a backdrop.
The composition for a funeral comes with “Rope” and “Bloodsucker” plays with the experimentation with dark and sharp industrial atmospheres.
Finally, “Maria” keeps the dark line of the entire disco based on a coup of mallet against sheet metal.
