Joana Dark is the project initiated by Ariadna Rulló, with the firm intention of transferring to the present, those themes that have left their mark on costumbrismo and the traditions of the last century. In “La Lireta” Joana recovers texts from the past to reflect on us, while she dedicates all her creative resources to making her career as a producer a more complex, subtle and profound musical proposal, encompassing all possible limits.
In “La Lireta”, Joana demonstrates the sound, located at the antipodes of the commercial, of the generic, of what works: what it does is, on the contrary, a kind of unstable magma of pulsations and radiances, of melodic sketches and blurring of textures, pursuing a serene, spiritual, almost ascetic expression. All those languages ??and influences from which she was nurtured dialogue on this album, creating new, different and highly evolved sound organisms.
The result is a romantic ode to eclecticism, which stands on strange ground, but that is where this unique artist achieves his ultimate goal: to sound new without being it, to sound old without seeming so, masterfully alternating each genre and getting out of the labyrinth knowing that, whether it has been forwards or backwards, the journey has been worthwhile.
In the end, Joana has just put together a set according to a record where there is a very careful balance between the ambition of her intentions and the greatness of her results, managing to go further, a task that is not easy at all. But the level is up there, and Joana can be proud of having signed and reaffirmed her entry into the history of electronic music.
