Night Room Records kicks off this particular 2022 with its first release of the year. Italian artist Maicol MP returns to the Spanish label after his premiere remixing Luis Kill & Maximiliano Db’s ‘Sunset In Africa’ last April. In this case, the Mediterranean artist surprises us with ‘Esmeralda EP’, a release that offers a journey through indie dance and disco music with two original cuts produced with analog material.
With the first track called ‘Esmeralda’, Maicol MP takes us to the dance floor with a catchy melody that we don’t want to stop listening to. While in ‘Anastasia’ we explore the minimalist sounds of electronic and disco music.
Adding to the original proposal of the Italian producer, we have the versions of ‘Esmeralda’ in the form of remixes by Manuel Noeth (Germany) and Deeplomat (Russia). The German artist moves the initial melodies to a more organic and progressive territory, while the Russian creator surprises us with a purely delicate and sentimental interpretation of ‘Esmeralda’.
It is a unique work, which consolidates a sound full of cinematographic influences, until it finds a set that is a progression of chords that are like serotonin bombs, also a testimony of a complex era and society, which seeks redemption at all costs. .
The result of this return of MAICOL MP is a romantic ode to eclecticism, which is sustained in a strange, dark, and sometimes quite creepy terrain, but that is where this unique producer achieves his ultimate goal: to sound new without being it, to sound old. without seeming so, alternating each genre with mastery and leaving the labyrinth knowing that, whether it has been forwards or backwards, the journey has been worthwhile. Few producers know how to play their cards as well as he does, marking a track that calls into question the rules of the genre, building a timeless ensemble, to which we will turn over time trying to decipher that magical and complex mechanism that manages to transcend all expectations of dance music.
