The Miami-based producer couple have brought their flair for spicy sounds and tropical tones to the fore with ‘Stay Fresh’. A bouncy, percussion-filled offering suitable for any sun-soaked dance floor or speakeasy nightclub, «Stay Fresh» beats with its sparkling rhythms and bouncy vocals. Dipzy and Chris Clark have created a sensational home heater and a welcome addition to the Dirtybird catalog with ‘Stay Fresh’.
House producer and multi-instrumentalist Dipzy has embraced music since he was five years old, mastering the timbales, congas and drums at a young age thanks to his Miami upbringing and his Cuban heritage. His first big release, ‘Wobble Like’, was via Dirtybird and he has since appeared on labels such as This Ain’t Bristol and Parasoul. Dipzy has earned the support of top underground house artists like Shiba San, Green Velvet, Solardo, Rebuke, Kyle Watson, CID, Noizu, Treasure Fingers, Steve Darko, Lucati and more.
Chris Clark was born and raised in Miami, Florida and still calls it home today. Touring and producing has been his passion since his college years, where he majored in the music business before becoming a radio DJ at Revolution 93.5. His debut song ‘Disco Shit’ appeared on Traxsource in its first week of release and remains one of his most popular songs to this day. Emphasizing the afro house and tech house sounds of Miami, Clark founded his own record label, Lost Minds Records.
We have had the pleasure of interviewing Dipzy and this has been the result.
Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music? Was it all internet based?
A: I was born and raised in South Florida, bouncing between Miami Dade and Broward county, been doing music since as long as I can remember, playing latin timbale drums at church with my family at the age of 4, I then began to take some formal lessons on drums from age 5 – 13, took on guitar and bass and just became obsessed with learning every instrument I could get into. Its been very much a “in person” thing for me, showing up and making connections as much as I can
Who have been your main inspirations (both musical and in life)? And how have they affected your sound?
A: musically speaking; Earth, Wind, and Fire have been the musical pillars in my life, their music is the first music I can actually remember hearing as a kid, and continues to be a source for inspiration, I will forever hold a love for “funkyness” because of them, definitely is present in my sound.
How would you define your sound?
A: Heavy, Weird, Funky, Groovy, Latin
How has your sound evolved so far?
A: Ive found myself taking way more risks in my music, doing what I want to do unapologetically, even if its outside of what is considered meta
What can you tell us about your last project? What inspired you? What do you want to convey?
A: My last project “Stay Fresh” is a blend of all the favorite elements ive enjoyed in Dance music this past year, it’s the approach of less is more, but chasing that nuance that can make a track so special.
What can you tell us about the song in your latest work?
A: Ive wanted to hear a blend of bouncy and minimal vibes, but with latin percussion and fun drum patterns, so we tried to blend elements from across a few different subgenre’s within the House spectrum, truly was a quick and organic experience
What projects are you working on right now?
A: too many to count haha, always have plenty of seeds planted
