On a promising trajectory, DEARI appears a talent to take note of, so we are thrilled to have the chance to sit down with him for this exclusive interview, delving into his influences, creative process, and future aspirations.
Can you describe your musical style and influences in just 3 words?
Vocal-driven House.
What’s the first thing you do every morning and how does it set the tone for a day of music production?
Every day when I wake up, I grab a coffee. It’s one of my little pleasures and sets the day off on the right tone. I have just got a proper coffee machine, but it took me like three weeks to even make a decent coffee!
When you’re in the DJ booth, what’s typically playing in your sets, and do you have any signature tracks that always get the crowd going?
My sets are always changing but if you can play a classic tastefully then it always goes down a treat. Some of the best moments I have seen at clubs are when a big tune is played, and everyone is vibing to it.
Which online music forums or communities do you regularly engage with for inspiration in your creative work?
Mostly Instagram, YouTube & TikTok. I absolutely love getting inspiration and new production techniques on YouTube. If anyone knows any good forums, let me know.
How would you describe your personal style both in the way you DJ and in your approach to life?
I would say I am a pretty chilled, positive person which I hope you can hear in my music and sets. My music is upbeat and chilled, which I think I am normally—only when I have had my morning coffee, haha.
Can you recall the moment when you realised you wanted to pursue a career in Electronic Music?
Since I was 16, I have always wanted to do something Dance Music-related, but Covid was the big thing for me. The lockdown hit and I spent most of it making music, so even though it was a terrible situation, I managed to make something great out of all the free time I had.
Looking back on your childhood, what kind of kid were you and how do you see those traits reflected in your work today?
Pretty similar to today, I was quite chilled and upbeat. My two passions growing up were golf and music, so being able to pursue a career in the music industry is a lifelong dream.
Who are your favourite DJs and what about their style resonates with you?
There are so many great DJs I have seen! MK is one of my favourites as you know you’re going to get a great show and a great set guaranteed. I love the way he blends pop and underground music in his sets. His sets are always ones that I leave feeling inspired to create and DJ.
What are some pieces of equipment or technology you can’t live without in your daily DJing and music production?
My most used plugins have to be Serum and the Korg M1. As long as I have these, I will be able to create good music!
If you could choose any venue in the world to perform in, where would it be and why?
Ushuaia in Ibiza is a bucket list one for me! That’s my favourite club I have been to and I actually have a little Ushuaia hummingbird tattoo as well. I got it in Thailand drunk but that is another story…
Everyone has a guilty pleasure—what’s yours when it comes to tracks you secretly enjoy playing or listening to?
I am quite bad at listening to pop music. I don’t mind a bit of Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber, etc. Not the coolest thing to admit but a well-written pop song is something you can’t beat!
