ANDRO creates music that works in all environments and transcends genres. His openness to a wide range of sounds is what has made him a widely loved favorite, but also someone who operates in his own parallel musical world. We had a chance to talk to him, so enjoy your reading and check out his latest releases from him.
Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music?
I’m from Liverpool, in the United Kingdom. Now living in London. Music, especially motown classics and soul, was always a part of my household growing up. I’ve sang all my life and started writing songs and melodies since I was a kid. I was pursuing my solo path even during drama school. After I graduated, my friend asked me to sing for Jungle.
I feel like the underground scene will continue to persist. Do you think we can go back to «normal» events and festivals?
Its going to take time. But I am hopeful.
How is your sound evolving? What artists and genres do you enjoy mixing right now?
I think my sound evolves each time I finish a track and move on to the next. I’m really loving Chloe & Halle and Rina Sawayama at the moment.
How do you feel your music influences or impacts your listeners?
Every artist has their own unique way of delivery but I want people to see past the surface level and look deeper into how and what i’m saying. Its important to listen, not just ‘hear’.
What projects are you working on right now? What’s your story?
I’m already tackling my debut album. If you want to know my story, you’ll have to stay connected with Andro.
What can you tell us about each sound that makes up 360? What is hiding behind?
There is a story being told. The guitar is meant to emulate a haunting campfire story telling about romance. While the synths and and percussion give it a «fantastical» lift. The drums have an almost returning, reverb quality that makes me feel like an endless loop, especially in the verses. Overall, the track is upbeat but theres a sombreness to the actual topic.
And your work of art? What scale are you working on? What is the concept behind the job?
I’m going for beyond gold. I intend to make myself and my art heard. Considering there is a lack of representation of musicians of my demographic. I want to make an impact. And have longevity.
How are you living the current situation because of COVID? Has your work affected you a lot? Do you think there is hope? I feel like the underground scene will continue to persist.
I’ve spent the majority of the pandemic alone. It’s been incredibly challenging, but i got this EP out of it. I utilised the time I had to really understand what i want, and how im going to get it.
What projects are you working on right now?
My debut album, and working my live set.
