Born in the mid-1980s, Clain grew up in Paris. A music fan since childhood, he studied sound and image processing and worked as an engineer and is now a multifaceted artist producing a wide range of electronic music.

Released on labels such as KIDS Records, Mirror and Natura Viva, Clain’s production ranges from progressive and melodic house and techno to his own mix of fusion house, incorporating influences from different cultures and influences that he has absorbed in his travels around the world. .

Clain’s next single is a collaboration with Brozzo, Burning Earth, which will land on Natura Viva in early 2022.

We have had the pleasure of speaking with him, and this has been the result.

Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music? Was it all internet based?

I started by playing the drums at the age of 11. Then at the age of 17 I bought my firsts vinyl turntables after listening my first sets of the festival I Love Techno which in Gent, Belgium, at that time. I was a big fan of this festival as we didn’t have anything like this in France in the beginning of 2000. Real quick I bought my first gear which was a Korg Electribe EMX-1. I started studying electronic in a DUT and then studied sound and picture processing to become an engineer.

Who have been your main inspirations (both musical and in «life»)? And how have they affected your sound?

My main musical inspiration are probably Alexander Kowaslki, Boris Brejcha & Paul Kalkbrenner. My main inspiration in life is probably my friend & artist Anti.

How would you define your sound?

Hard to say, it is always hard to describe your work as an artist, so I’ll pass on this one and will let you describe it 🙂

How has your sound evolved so far?

My sound has evolved exactly how I have evolved personally. I can now play my music in a set which was really hard for me at first because I wasn’t satisfied enough of my work. I thought it didn’t fit to my sets, but now I do.

What can you tell us about your upcoming free download? What inspired you? What do you want to convey?

I didn’t have much inspiration but the music itself, it is a remix and I always do a remix of a track I love otherwise I can’t make a remix. What I want to convey every time I do a track is this feeling when you arrive at a party saying to you “this will be a great party” because the music when you arrive is exactly what you wanted to be.

You also have a single coming up on Natura Viva – how did you hook up with the label on this one?

This is not the first time I am releasing a track on the label and we think it’s a good label so releasing a track on the label is always nice.

How are you living the current situation because of COVID? Has your work affected you a lot? Do you think there is hope?

I feel like the underground scene will continue to persist. To be honest it is pretty hard, I have lost contracts and some of my inspirations. Only big names can keep working these days, promoters want to get guarantees that their party will be a success and this is by getting big names.

What other projects are you working on right now?

I am working on a new project with Gerard Spencer a handpan player and we are preparing annew live, stay tuned this is really promising.
