Mo.Ya.G is the brainchild of Yalopa and Deep Moodsetter, they made their first appearance on BIG Speaker earlier this year with ‘Can You Dance’ and are now back with ‘House Music (All Night Long)’ a deep affair. Heartwarming with all the old school influences you’d expect from a BIG Speaker release. Speaking comes right with an evening workout too just in case. One for basement clubs and lowlights.
We have had the pleasure of speaking with the producer, and this has been the result.
Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music? Was it all internet based?
Mo.Ya.G is from Belgium.
Mr. Yalopa has been producing somewhat longer than Deep Moodsetter, although Moodsetter already had a worldwide picture disck vinyl EP in 2014 released as ‘BacktrackDaddies’.
We knew eachother more as Deep house dj’s as Moodsetter has been inviting Yalopa frequently in Beachbars and his radio shows.
We both are IT consultancy (read: we work long hours) so we try to get together and work on our ideas minimum every 2 weeks.
Some of the ideas were being discussed via chat… but in person music making works best for us.
Who have been your main inspirations (both musical and in «life»)? And how have they affected your sound?
For Moodsetter, it’s way way back in the 1980s with Inner City, David Morales, Roger Sanchez – although my biggest inspiration is not a who, but a ‘what’ – the era of 1989 and the underground clubs at that time are my biggest inspiration
For Yalopa it’s very much the Defected style for the early years 2000.
How would you define your sound?
Deep house with More Jack (because you can pronounce Mo.Ya.G as More Jack 😉 )
Well inspired by the early underground clubs and the Ibiza, Belgian vibes. We are a party country !
What projects are you working on right now?
We are working on a blended house and progressive spacey house sound.
How are you living the current situation because of COVID? Has your work affected you a lot? Do you think there is hope?
I feel like the underground scene will continue to persist.
One other tracks that will be next to be released is ‘Not Staying home’
We are not pessimistic, I think we have respectfully always gotten together in safe way and enjoy life as much as possible
How has your sound evolved so far?
From a basic sound over to a more complex and more ‘party’ sound, still trying to stay true to the deep moodsetting of the underground.
What can you tell us about your last job? What inspired you? What do you want to convey?
Joe Ventura did a shout-out for Deep Moodsetter’s radio show and this immediately gave Deep Moodsetter the idea.
Yalopa made his version of it and from that point on we consolidated the two ideas into one.
So the BIG BOSS of BIG SPEAKER RECORDS was the inspiration.
What can you tell us about each song that makes up your latest work? What is hidden behind?
Deep Moodsetter is part of the catalyst in getting the loungy deephouse of Yalopa’s production skills into a ‘More Jacking’ vibe and mood.
Mo.Ya.G wouldn’t be Mo.Ya.G if one of us left the building 😉
