The mysterious Overkissed is releasing his debut album on Mood of the Era. The sounds used in creating the 4-track «PORN CUTS» EP are waves of pure delight, each track having its own vibe from beginning to end. The artist uses solid frequencies of analog sound to create a theme that is best described as fun and mischievous. Pamper your inner epicurean with these deep and sensual rhythms.
We have had the pleasure of speaking with Overkissed and this has been the result.
Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music? Was it all internet based?
I am an artist based in Istanbul. Before producing electronic music I was playing different instruments in bands and making music myself in my home with my computer during my teen years. Messing around at home with music and following the new stuff coming from all over the world I was already really happy in my own place with lots of downloaded music, cassettes, and CDs. Then I started sharing my music with my friends, I saw that I have nice feedbacks and that eventually made my mind on making music is my thing and being happy by seeing people enjoy the music I shared with people at an early age.
Who have been your main inspirations (both musical and in «life»)? And how have they affected your sound?
My inspirations come from different edges of the music. I love electronic music but I also love to listen to many other genres like hard rock or hip-hop. So if I would start to call my inspirations it would be a list starting from Moodymann, Four Tet, Aphex Twin, Burial and so on which all are very varied perspectives of music. And all those inspirations for me are all different and excite me in different ways than others do which also affects my sound diversely.
How would you define your sound?
Naughty, if we speak for the Porn Cuts EP… Generally, I am trying to challenge myself sonically but the main thing I try to reflect on is to bring the feel to the track as it was intended in my mind, as many of its perspectives fit like mixing, arrangement, dynamic structure of the piece of music.
How has your sound evolved so far?
Purely experimenting with it as I feel like and molding and sculpting it with consideration of what modern sounds should sound like in my mind into this feel of the music. I believe in the feeling on the making of music so I try to finish my work as I could still feel and not get bored of it, so it would not be a burden to listen over and over my own tracks.
What can you tell us about your last job? What inspired you? What do you want to convey?
Porn Cuts EP was a fun project that I started not so long ago and it was conceptually based on two people talking to each other in a pleasurable way to give the audience imagination. All 4 tracks are produced in one month and I wanted to impose the feelings in the production and vibe.
What can you tell us about each song that makes up your latest work? What is hidden behind??
Tracks are pretty straightforward sensual and that was the aim of this project with all 4 tracks in Porn Cuts EP. I like how music can be a way to reflect whatever you want from it and it becomes a piece of work at the end. Take it seriously or not but just finish it make it out to the world. Not all of us are to be taken too seriously anyway.
How are you living the current situation because of COVID? Has your work affected you a lot? Do you think there is hope? I feel like the underground scene will continue to persist.
Like many others, my works have been affected a lot but I really hope that we will continue to enjoy music as much as we wish because there is part of unity and passion when you rave outside and it brings you a feeling of joy coming from this events and festivals. The rave culture and its obtainment in unity have changed the world for better in the history, and some of the artists and people around the world are being recognized more and more thanks to this underground culture.
What projects are you working on right now?
Non-stop working on my current and past projects as whichever I would fit for next releases.
