Soma Records directors Slam released Volume 1 of their Louder Than Chaos project today, featuring collaborations with Slam and Hector Oaks, 999999999 and Keith Tucker (AKA Optic Nerve).
This is the first in a series of 5 releases on 12 ”vinyl and digital with friends, colleagues and contemporaries normally only seen at airports or events.
now reunited in a completely different set of circumstances, allowing for an intended connection in a moment of disconnection.
The approach of the project is based on a powerful mutual participation, built remotely over time and entirely aimed at celebrating the court on the dance floors at peak hours.
We have had the pleasure of speaking with them, and this has been the result.
Hi guys! When did you decide to come together to create Louder Than Chaos Vol.1 😕
We started the project at the end of March 20-20 basically just at the beginning of lockdown.
What was your production criteria on each of the tracks on Louder Than Chaos Vol.1 😕
There was no set plan written in stone, it was different for each production i guess, but generally we would bounce arrangements or stems back and forth to each other, we would then both make changes to the arrangement or add parts until each collaborator was happy with the final result. This could take some time, but at that moment I guess that’s a luxury we all had.
Will we see you guys reunited for more jobs?
I really hope so. I think collaboration is for us anyway something quite refreshing. Working as a duo, our work is by nature collaborative in its approach, so it’s something we find quite natural. I think something quite powerful can happen when two artists come together for a project!
What do you think unites you creatively? And what differentiates you?
This is a difficult question to define exactly. I think every artist has their own way of doing things. They each have their own sound. The artists we chose to work with are all essentially quite unique in their own way, that’s why it’s interesting when those two creative forces come together. You can hear Optic Nerve but you can also hear Slam too. Good collaborations are not only a creative union but they are also a compromise in a positive way.
What projects are you working on?
Louder than Chaos will take us up to March 20-22
At present we are in the studio re -tweaking our Hybrid live show. Which we had initially started to perform before lockdown. We have just made a remix for Spanish producer Regal and we’re working on some new E.Ps which will come out on our label Soma later next year!
