Sukiyaky creates music that works in all settings and transcends genres. His openness to a wide range of sound is what has both made him a widely loved favourite, but also someone who operates in his own parallel musical world. Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music?

Hello! I am from Japan, Kanagawa prefecture, next to Tokyo.
When I was a high school student, I was into street dance, especially House and Poppin dance. That was my first encounter with dance music. Then, I got an illness in college, and I found it difficult to keep dancing. and then it occured to me that if I can’t enjoy myself dancing, I’ve only to make people enjoy dancing instead of me by my music and my DJ.
That’s why I started making music and playing DJ.
Now I’m recovering and able to enjoy dancing.

I feel like the underground scene will continue to persist. Do you think we can go back to “normal” events and festivals?

Although the number of patients and infected people by Covid-19 are reducing gradually, the future situation stays unpredictable. But in Japan, the state of emergency had been lifted just one week before, and I saw some flyers about the club event and outdoor music festival scheduled in coming near future.
Of course, participants need to put on a mask, Put some hand sanitizer and take a distance, but the situation is getting better.
I think it’s difficult to hold a event or festival same as it used, but with measures against corona virus mentioned above we can organize a event and enjoy a music party.

How is your sound evolving? What artists and genres do you enjoy mixing right now?

I decide which track I play next during the playing and sometimes I come to think of the suitable track for playing track intuitively.
In the club, I need to consider club’s and event’s atmosphere.
French touch music is one of my favorite genres.
«Lifelike», «Honom» and «Rotkraft» are my recent favorite artists, they are really cool.

How do you feel your music influences or impacts your listeners?

I’ve noticed that it’s almost impossible to expect which track attracts listneres more strong.
Even if I made a great effort to make one track, that can’t gurantee the populalitiy of the track.
On the other hand, the track I finished soon have the more play times of my tracks.
for me it’s really interesting that I can’t realize which track is played most until the release.

How was This Is The Love born? What was your criteria?

When I started making this EP, my direction was still undecided. through the DJ experience in some clubs and DJ bars, my tracks formed. sometimes I tried playing those of demo in events, and added some modifications and changes to them, and then again I played. After keeping them, my tracks got positive feedback from the audience, like»

Who’s track did you play?

I can’t find on Shazam !» and that gave me confidence about my tracks in «This Is The Love».
I put emphasis on simply whether I can enjoy dancing with my track and I can feel them cool tracks on my own.
And for me instinction toward sounds was very helpful and useful for making tracks.
Although I’m sure that I can still improve as an artist especially in terms of the skill of mixing the track, I did the best to the EP at this time.

Does that bother you?

Basically I didn’t have hard time for that because I always really enjoy producing music. But sometimes I felt it difficult to make a track close to the ideal. In this regard, Andre Dalcan, a founder of the Label «Onirism Music» and also an musician, gave me some advice and that was really helpful for me. I’m appreciating to his usual support.

What makes you happy?

I like to go clubbing, and playing DJ, dancing, and meeting friends there. I’m missing such activities so much because of covid-19.
I also get excited when I encounter a new cool track especially in the club. I repeat a favorite track many times in my room and such time is a refreshing moment.
Needless to say, making music is one of the happiest time for me, and I often forget about the time.

Do you have any final words of wisdom?

«This Is The Love» is my first mini LP from the French label «Onirism Music». I hope you get excited to dance with my tracks kind of House and Nu disco.
And I will keep producing music and share my feelings like love, joy, gratitude, happiness, respect and stuff trough my music, so please wait for that expectantly
