Today artist interview welcomes Joshua Cooke ahead of his new release. A firm favorite in our office so lets find out what makes him tick…
For people who don’t yet know you, tell us about your yourself?
My name is Joshua Cooke and I am a music producer from Shropshire in the UK. I specialise in EDM and House music. I’m 22 and my mission is to put my home town Telford on the map for EDM/House music. I’m self taught and started playing around with music from the age of 13. I’ve loved it ever since.
Your latest release is great, a firm favourite in our office, what was your inspiration behind it?
My inspiration behind my latest track Lost my Mind was purely the bassline. I wanted my next release to be a house track with a deep dramatic bassline with a catchy vocal to complement it. Romany’s voice fits perfectly into the track.
If you could travel back in time and collaborate with any musician from the past, who would it be and why?
100% Avicii. If i could travel back in time, I’d definitely love to collaborate with Avicii. From someone who has always wanted to see Avicii live but unfortunately i never got that opportunity.
Tell us a little bit about how you create, how do you bring an idea to life?
For me i often start off with some simple chords and build a track from there or i start with a bassline. Someone like me who doesn’t have the gift of creating a track from the get go, it often takes me a couple of hours of writing and binning music before i eventually find the right idea. From there i will then progress the track and hopefully finish it off. Personally, if i’m not feeling the track then how can i expect anyone else to?
What is a lesser-known fact about you that your fans might be surprised to learn?
A lesser known fact about me, would be that i’m very opened minded when it comes to music. I often find myself exploring different genres and producing them but i never release them.
Can you share with us a particularly memorable moment or experience from your musical journey so far?
A particularly memorable moment for me would be featuring on Tomorrowlands One World Radio in May 2022. That was a very special moment in my life and music career and i loved every moment of it.
Who are some of your biggest musical influences and inspirations, and how have they shaped your sound?
Avicii and Kygo are definitely my biggest music influences. Their style of music is just so energetic and happy. They always have good solid leads and melodies that people remember and enjoy. They have had a massive impact on my music as i’ve tried to reflect the happiness and brightness into my music. I want to make people dance and feel happy while making amazing memories to my music.
What’s next?
What’s next? For me now, I don’t think there’s anything stopping me. I’ve got a few tracks ready to be released and finished but I definitely want to be collaborating with some well known vocalist and maybe even producers in the near future.
