INTERVIEW: TON 618

Como Las Grecas welcome TON 618 to the site to talk about his new LP, his life and more.

Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music?

TON 618 is born as a sort of collective project, with some people involved in different ways to make aware people to Science, specifically astrophysic and astronomy.

Some are involved into social media sharing daily upgrades about recent discoveries, others into music.

Music that is created using “sound from Space”.

A magnetic field, a gravitational wave, everything that can be trasduced into sound is the mainstay of any track by TON 618.

The project get into music in 2019 through SYNTHEKE records with the track “Vela”, using the magnetic field from the neutron star itself.

Who have been your main inspirations (both musical and in «life»)? And how have they affected your sound?

There was not a specific inspiration, mostly can be considered the common passion among people around the project for Science. It affected the sound because is something never done before.

Create music with sound from Space, despite universe always inspired people, signals from it have never been used before.

How would you define your sound?

TON 618 sound can be described in this way:

“The inner sound of space that send back people to the ancestral origin of everything.”

In fact, some of signals transduced in sound are very old, even thousands of years.

For example: a neutron star thousands hundred of light years far away, but discovered recently, is something very old but, at the same time, recent.

Time, in this case, is a very relative thing.

How has your sound evolved so far? Do you see yourself as part of one style of music?

Generally, TON 618 music is not possible to classify.

Is electronic, and classical, or techno, at the same time.

Space Noise, or Space Drone, for example, are nice words to identify TON 618 music.

The idea is to create a new shape of sound.

What can you tell us about your last release? What inspired you? What do you want to convey?

“Space Is Full Of Noise” is the forefront of modern electronic music fused with Science.

It has been created with some of the most popular magnetic fields from around the cosmos (Saturn’s rings from Voyager, gravitational waves from LIGO, magnetic fields from some neutron stars into the Milky Way, and so on), with 2 different DAW: Ableton 10 & Logic X.

The biggest goal remain the one previously exposed, to make aware people to Science, alongside to create a new shape into the world of electronic music.

It has been inspired by nature, itself, at the most ancestral level.

What modern artists are you enjoying? Maybe you can share some lesser known artists we might not know of?

Icelandic & Persian scenes are very interesting nowadays.

What projects are you working on right now?

Nothing new is ready yet.
