Today on Como Las Grecas we have the pleasure of talking with Huebl, his new release «Prdct 01» is a stand out release so far this year, lets find out what makes him tick, whats important to him in music and in life.

What’s the most profound musical experience you’ve ever had, and how has it influenced your creative output?

A major turning point in my creative process was my decision to limit myself. Reduce it to the essentials. That’s the only way I feel comfortable and the only way I can challenge myself.

In your opinion, what’s the most underrated electronic music subgenre, and why do you feel it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves?

For me it’s more than a subgenre…but I think especially the Detroit influenced techno should become more widely known. Organic has lost its importance from electronic music to the general mainstream. Detroit techno has always experimented with it and has not been afraid to add warmth to danceability and futurism. These days, it’s more about breaks and drops which are then displayed on social media. 15 minutes of fame and not tracks that will still make you dance in 50 years.

Can you tell us about a particularly memorable gig you played, and what made it stand out for you?

Just recently…directly under the Vienna State Opera. I played a support gig for the amazing Anfisa Letyago at «O Klub». Obviously I tested my freshly finished tracks from the upcoming album.

If you could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

That’s a tough one…very tough. I take the liberty of naming one living person and one who has unfortunately already passed away. Robert Hood aka Floorplan and Barry White. A why is redundant with such names…right?

What’s the most unusual sound you’ve ever used in a track, and how did you go about incorporating it?

I included a snarky laugh in my soon to be released single, «Got Soul In A Digital World.» Towards the end of the track I wanted to break a little with the over-seriousness of the scene. I stand behind myself and my music and yet I can laugh at myself. Shoutout to Josh Wink.

How has your musical style evolved over the years, and what factors have contributed to those changes?

It became more and more groovy and driving, although for me this is not a question of BPM. Praise the 909 and Shuffle. I also like to add little hand-turned subtleties to the tracks. Yes Techno, but made from humans and not a robot.

What’s your creative process like, from start to finish, and how has it changed over time?

I usually start with a 909. After the groove comes the rest, or it arises almost simultaneously. And then I compose or destroy an organic sample. The arrangement usually results by itself. In the past I often wanted too much and now I am at an age where it is enough for me to be myself. Just create a Huebl track.

In your opinion, what’s the biggest challenge facing the electronic music scene today, and what steps can we take to overcome it?

For me, only the music is and always has been in the foreground. Nevertheless, electronic music (and the music industry in general) suffers from the pressure of over-commercialisation. It seems like it’s better to release 30 average tracks than try to take make 1 timeless one. No time for excuses. No time for creativity. I can’t offer a ultimate solution…unfortunately. I just try to value creativity and authenticity. Especially…support your local artists…especially the independent ones.

Can you tell us about a particularly challenging moment in your career, and how you overcame it?

The emptiness during the pandemic weighed heavily on me. Fortunately, I took advantage of the time and formally locked myself in the studio. Luckily, the «time» parameter has solved itself.

How do you see electronic music evolving over the next decade, and where do you see yourself fitting into that picture?

I hope and think that organic & groove will come more to the foreground again. Enjoying the moment and not filming continuously in the club. Precisely there my sound should fit in very well. I will definitely continue to do my thing…let’s see what happens.

What’s next for you?

Besides some gigs I am in a longer promo phase for my upcoming album. I’m also working on some new tracks with my mates Albin Brezlan and Umhaller.
